Attending Best of Vegas- VegasDrift Event

We attended the Best of Vegas event hosted by VegasDrift for the Festival of Speed.

The team suffered an unfortunate engine failure, partly because we didn’t relieve the pressure of the oil from the valve cover.
Photobucket
Yao’s s13 was put out of commission due to an engine fire, also right after the valve cover was powder coated.
So not relieving the pressure, oil will find a way out and it came out over the exhaust manifold.
Also the Hachiroku suffer a rear bumper explosion.

Wigi also attended.

Bomac bought out his dad’s car out. His personal s13 was out of state, and his Hachiroku is still in the works.

Yao’s SR20DET Head work Cont’d

So far everything is going great with the head work. The head is now on and torqued to spec. We went with 90 ft/lbs for each of the head studs.

Photobucket

Everything is looking good, kind of a pain to get some of the bolts for the head studs on because they are underneath the holes for the head studs.

Photobucket

Finally got all the shims and guides put back on including the rocker arms

Photobucket

After that was done the really hard part of putting the cams and cams gears on correctly was up next. Jesse hooked it up big and got everything to the point where the valves arent slapping pistons. Thanks a lot man!

Photobucket

After that was put on, I had to wait for the new parts to come in. I ordered the red samco hoses, intake manifold plenum, new timing chain tensioner gasket, Tomei FRP gauge, and a Stance oversized water pulley

Photobucket

I have been meaning to do the Stance (or Yashio Factory) pulley upgrade for a while now, it is a very cheap and effective upgrade and I suggest it for any drifter. The oversized pulley is 10% bigger then stock, maxing your revs to the water pulley to 6k RPM. This allows your water pump to rotate slower thus creating less bubbles, and a water cooling system without air is optimal.

After that the intake manifold and all wires were hooked back up. Fuel lines reconnected and FPR gauge installed.

Exhaust side put back together and as you can see, the samco hoses look amazing and actually FIT, unlike the stock hoses which were worn and REALLY close to the alternator belt.

As the motor stands right now, I am supposed to be getting tuned in two days. I will post the vids from that tune session. Before that is done though, I had to figure a way to solve the problem of oil being squirt all over my engine bay by my Greddy Oil catch can which was poorly set up by me. So to remedy that situation, I have bought all AN fittings for the catch can and doing a AN tap on the valve cover. Forest Wang over at GetNutz Labs hooked it up on the welds, and is the inspiration on this.

Now the Valve cover is over at powdercoat and should be back today. Going to look amazing, stay tuned for more.

Mike Bolanos (Bomac) – New Member

Bomac just joined up with Team Verzus and he is a very welcomed addition. Many california drifters know Bomac and most if not all know him in Vegas. He was this last years Vegas Drift ProAM judge and a great drifter as well. Look for him out on the track with the newly painted and beautified s13 coupe!

Wigi Ferrer – New Member ALERT!

Wigi - Team Verzus

Wigi is a new member in Team Verzus. After careful consideration from Yao and Gray, Wigi has been added to the team and is looking amazing. His car is a s14 zenki, all black with Work Meisters!! A full write up of the car and upgrades coming soon to our individual member pages.

Welcome to Team Verzus Wigi, great having you on board!

Yao’s SR20DET Head Repair Cont’d

The head is now off completely and was actually much easier then originally foreseen. It is much easier when the entire head was already off about 9 months ago lol. Heres the pics of the head off.

Very important if it is your first time taking a head off a motor; plastic sandwich bags and a marker can go a LONG way.

Photobucket

Bagged and tagged.

So this is how I am sitting right now. I am hopefully getting the head machined and reinstalled this weekend. The new APEXI metal head gasket is on the way and should be here tomorrow afternoon. I got the 87mm x 1.1mm headgasket. FRSport.com is running a special on head gaskets right now, awesome deals.

Yao’s SR20DET Head Repair

Photobucket

During the U-Drift event on Oct. 8th 2011, the 3rd cylinder blew the spark plug out of Yao’s s13 head and took the threading with it. Gray and Yao are going to be taking the head off the motor and get it to a machine shop where the head can be decked and tanked. Possibly will get a 3 angle valve job while the head is off, that might be done as well. Always good to upgrade something if you have it off the car, especially something like the head.

Photobucket

You can’t really see the threads stripped, but you can definitely see where the clip for the coil pack broke strait off the coil pack.

Photobucket

First things first, got to get that intake manifold off the motor and since last weeks incident with fuel flooding the entire intake manifold, I think I have the cleanest manifold in Vegas.

Photobucket

Manifold off, and I looked around the area and make sure I don’t see anything out of the ordinary. Looking good so far.

Photobucket

After the manifold came off, we started on getting the cams and cam gears out of the way so we could get to the head bolts. I love my HKS cam gears and cams, makes me wish there was a see through valve cover, so beautiful.

Photobucket

Insides are so clean!

Photobucket

Cams and cam gears are off. All pieces are bagged and tagged and ready to pull the head. Because of my ARP head studs, the head bolts are 13mm star sockets, looks like this is a good stopping point for the night before a trip to autozone is needed.

U-Drift Event Oct. 8th 2011

U-Drift night went off without a hitch. A lot of locals came out and showed support as well as the out-of-towners. Team Verzus was out there in full force except for Erik aka Dook-E, which was not able to make it because of family reasons.

Gray was doing great out on the track. He was participating in some 3 car tandems with FD driver Forest Wang and U-Drift guy Garrett Nikolich. Yao was out there with his s13 coupe wearing out some tires and throwing down some good runs, but a problem happened a couple hours into the runs. Cylinder 3 decided to eject the spark plug and strip out the threads on the way out during a run. So there is definitely some work to do to get the motor running well again.

All in all, a amazing turn out and a beautiful night to boot. A lot of drifters came out and did their thing and there definitely was a good atmosphere going on. Thank you U-Drift for being around and letting us drift the hell out of your track. U-Drift is open 7 days a week and more info can be found by going to U-Drift.com . Check em out!
